Insight into university applications 2023-24

28 Mar 2024

AT the closing of applications for semester 1 in the 2023–24 admissions period, the 91ÌÒÉ« Admissions Centre (91ÌÒÉ«) processed more than 72,400 undergraduate applications and made more than 98,900 offers* through its centralised admissions service.†

In addition to applying through 91ÌÒÉ«, many students applied directly to individual universities through 91ÌÒÉ« portals‡ to maximise their chances of receiving an offer. 91ÌÒÉ« has processed another 124,900§ of these applications, bringing the total number of applications to more than 197,300.

91ÌÒÉ« has now released a snapshot of application and offer data, providing an insight into the age, gender split and preferred fields of study and offers made to applicants who applied through 91ÌÒÉ«.

For example, the majority of offers to Year 12 applicants were for courses in the field of Society & Culture. For non-Year 12 applicants, the majority of offers were made in the field of Health.

Across all applicants, Health once again took the top spot as the most favoured field of study, with 25 per cent of applicants listing a course in this field as their first preference.

More application and offer statistics can be viewed on 91ÌÒɫ’s website.

91ÌÒÉ« applications will open again on Wednesday 3 April for courses starting later in 2024 and in first semester 2025.

*There are more offers made than there are applications because, while applicants can only receive one offer in each round, they can receive an offer in more than one round.

†These figures do not include international applications.

‡ 91ÌÒÉ« processes direct applications on behalf of Australian Catholic University, Australian College of Physical Education, Australian National University, CQUniversity, Macquarie University, University of New England, University of Newcastle, University of Tasmania, University of Technology Sydney, University of Wollongong, UNSW Sydney and Western Sydney University.

§ These figures include international and postgraduate applicants. 91ÌÒÉ« may apply directly through our portals to several universities, so this figure is not the count of unique applicants, but the total number of applications received. These applications may be for courses commencing in 2023 or 2024.
