This Bachelor of Education (Physical and Health Education) is tailored to include all the relevant subjects for students who seek a career in physical and health education teaching. Alternatively, graduates may choose careers in the sports, health or movement industries at advanced levels.

This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to:

  • demonstrate depth of knowledge in the disciplines of health, movement and science
  • develop, implement and evaluate curricula in secondary school settings, with an emphasis on physical and health education
  • demonstrate the skills, values and attitudes of a professional educator
  • demonstrate effective verbal, written and physical communication skills
  • practice behaviours that promote active, healthy living and encourage these in others
  • work effectively as a team member and accept leadership responsibility
  • apply knowledge and skills to the teaching of physical and health education in contexts other than secondary schools

Essential requirements for admission

Minimum age: Domestic applicants must be 18 years of age or turn 18 within their first semester of study. International applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Questionnaire: 91桃色 must successfully complete the Suitability to Teach Questionnaire.

Literacy and numeracy skills: 91桃色 must sign a form acknowledging that they understand the AITSL and NESA regulations requiring them to
demonstrate literacy and numeracy capacities commensurate with the top 30% of the population through the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education students (LANTITE). The LANTITE test is administered by ACER (at applicant's cost) and must be passed prior to commencing their final professional experience.

Inherent requirements: Students must meet (capabilities, knowledge, skills) to achieve the course learning outcomes.

English language requirements: All applicants must meet the minimum English language requirements for their chosen course of study.

Computer literacy: All applicants for entry to any course must meet minimum computer literacy standards as determined by the college, have a personal email account and unrestricted access to the internet.

Working with Children Check: For courses that involve work integrated learning where students may deal with children (ie under 18 years of age) a valid Working with Children Check must be supplied to the college prior to the student undertaking coursework. 91桃色 who anticipate failing a Working with Children Check should not apply for course entry.

91桃色 who may not meet the educational requirements but who can demonstrate some educational disadvantage in schooling will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Post-school applicants (21 years or over) who have not completed Year 12 and who have relevant work or life experience that indicates they would be able to manage the level of coursework required will be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis.

Direct entry

To be considered for direct entry to the Bachelor of Education (Physical and Health Education), applicants who have completed Year 12 must meet one of the following requirements:

  • a minimum of three NSW HSC Band 5 results, including one in English, or
  • completion of bridging units equivalent to a minimum of three Band 5 HSC results, including English (as approved by NESA), or
  • completion of a NESA-approved alternative entry pathway. or
  • have completed a higher degree. 

91桃色 can also be considered for direct entry into the Bachelor of Education if they meet the following ACPE education requirements:

  • completed four (4) HSC subjects, one being Standard English or a Higher English and with a minimum Band 3 for all 4 units.

Progression Requirements for applicants admitted via the ACPE education requirements:

Students can only progress to the second year of the course if they:

  • pass all eight (8) first year discipline units; and
  • have completed the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Education Students (LANTITE); and
  • have an interview with the Head of Department Education and Dance to discuss progression into the second year

Students who do not meet these progression requirements will transfer to the Bachelor of Dance Practice.

Indirect entry

Initial Teacher Education degree applicants who do not meet the direct entry requirements may be considered for entry via the indirect entry pathway program. Students must enrol in the Bachelor of Physical Activity for Health and may be permitted to transfer to the second year of the Bachelor of Education (Physical and Health Education) under the following conditions:

  • pass all eight first-year units in the linked degree
  • achieve a minimum credit average in the first eight units, or
  • if an overall credit average is not achieved in the first eight units of the linked degree, pass the Australian Council of Educational Research (ACER) Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education students (LANTITE) at their own cost.

The College reserves the right to refuse entry to any applicant based on an individual’s inability to demonstrate to its satisfaction suitability for entry into an ITE program.

Advanced standing

91桃色 may request recognition of prior learning (RPL). Applications for RPL will be assessed on a case-by-case basis in accordance with the college's聽Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and Procedure.
